What we collect when you visit, what we do with it, and what we do not do with it.

Last updated · April 22, 2026

Late Nite Reader is a small, independent reading journal. This page describes what data the site collects when you visit, why, and what you can do about it. The summary, in plain English, is: we collect very little, and what we do collect we treat with care.

What we collect

Information you give us directly

If you subscribe to the email newsletter, you provide an email address. That address is used only to send you the newsletter and to let you know about occasional updates to this site. We do not sell, rent, or share email addresses with third parties.

If you write to us through the contact page or by email, we receive whatever you send. We keep that correspondence for the time needed to reply and for our own reference, and we do not share it.

Information collected automatically

When you visit Late Nite Reader, your browser, like every browser, sends standard request information to our hosting provider — the page you requested, the time, your approximate location based on IP address, your browser type, and the referring page. This information is logged briefly for security and operational purposes and is not used to build a profile of you.

We use lightweight, privacy-respecting analytics to understand how many people read each post and which posts they reach. The analytics provider does not set tracking cookies, does not collect personal information, and does not share data across sites.

Cookies

Late Nite Reader uses a minimal number of cookies — only those necessary to remember preferences you have set on the site (for example, dismissing a banner). We do not set advertising cookies of our own.

Third-party services

Advertising

Late Nite Reader may, in the future, display advertising served by third-party ad networks such as Google AdSense. When advertising is enabled, those networks may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this and other sites.

You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ad Settings, or by visiting www.aboutads.info for information on opting out of personalized advertising more broadly.

Affiliate links

Some posts on Late Nite Reader contain links to books or services from which we may earn a small commission if you make a purchase. These links are clearly indicated where they occur, and we only link to things we have read or used and would recommend. See the disclosure page for the full account.

Embedded content

Some posts may include embedded content from other sites (videos, images, or quotations). Embedded content from external sites behaves exactly as if you had visited that other site directly, and may collect data, use cookies, or embed additional tracking. We have no control over those external services.

What we do not do

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, and to object to certain processing. You can exercise these rights, or ask any other privacy-related question, by writing to us at privacy@latenitereader.com.

Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and California (under the CCPA) have specific statutory rights, all of which we honor.

Children's privacy

Late Nite Reader is intended for adult readers. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be noted clearly.
